Air Con Service & Maintenance Checklist

When our air conditioning tradesmen carry out Air Conditioning Service within your home,  we follow a comprehensive air con service checklist. This checklist helps us know exactly what to do when performing maintenance work on your home’s aircon system. Completing regular or at least annual tasks on the air conditioner helps with its longevity and performance. Here at Logicool Air, we are here to perform professional air conditioner maintenance work and also guide people on how to carry out regular maintenance tasks.

A good air con service checklist should include the following:

  • Clean the indoor and outdoor unit, including the condenser coils and evaporator
  • Inspect the refrigerant levels to top up or replace fluid
  • Look over the drain pan and the condensate drains and clean if needed
  • Check the fans, motors, blades and blower and that they are working correctly
  • Inspect the refrigerant tubing and compressor for leaks or other problems
  • Lubricate any moving parts in the system, most likely for older air conditioning units
  • Inspect, clean and replace the aircon air filters
  • Look for any leak or issue inside the ductwork
  • Perform a general test of the system making sure all parts work properly

How Should I Service and Perform Maintenance on my Air Conditioning Systems?

There are many steps a person should take in order to service their aircon system at home and easily. Small steps and inspections can be extremely beneficial in preventing major ac issues and expenses. It is a good idea to perform at home aircon service at least once a year in residential properties.

This is to ensure the system does not have to work harder due to problems and works more energy efficiently. The best air con service checklist contains multiple steps which are simple to complete. However, we always recommend contacting a professional air conditioning tradesmen before carrying out any of the following tasks.

Cleaning the Units

The outdoor and indoor unit should be cleaned of any dust or debris to prevent blockages and issues. Using a cloth to remove the dust and having any vegetation or debris cleared from the outdoor unit is important. Cleaning the condenser unit coils and the evaporators should be carefully completed with dust removed off them.

For more information on aircon coil cleaning and the negatives of dirty coils, we encourage reading our blog.

Inspect Refrigerant Levels

It is important that the correct amount of refrigerant is working inside of the air conditioner to prevent issues. If the aircon is not cooling correctly, working for longer or the energy bill has increased then the refrigerant levels could be low. Simply observing the refrigerant tank and seeing if there is enough is a good way to insect the refrigerant levels.

Check Drain Pan and Condensate Drain

Look at the drain pan and also the condensate drains to ensure that they are clean and working correctly. If they are blocked or dirty then moisture can build up and cause problems with the aircon unit. A high amount of moisture will also mean that the aircon will also produce high in moisture air flow.

Inspect Fans, Motors, Blades and Blower

The fans, motors, blades and blower are parts of the air conditioning system which should all be inspected. These help blow out air around the system and home and should be working perfectly. If the motor has blown out to the fans that need replacing, each part should be looked over and replaced if needed.

Look For Refrigerant Leaks

The refrigerant lines should be inspected to see if they are either blocked or leaking. If they are damaged then they cannot easily transfer the coolant towards the compressor and the system will need to work harder. To make sure the compressor and other systems do not fail, look for leaks and blockages and have a licensed technician repair them.

Lubricate Moving Parts

Older air conditioning systems might have parts, such as the compressor and fan motors, which need lubricants to move. These should be lubricated regularly to prevent [arts clashing with each other and not moving correctly. Newer aircon models have sealed parts which do not need lubricant but should still be inspected.

Work on the Air Filters

The air filters are a part of the aircon which can be easily serviced and should be cleaned and replaced regularly. A clogged or dirty filter can easily cause disadvantages to the aircon unit, from lower efficiency to higher energy bills. At least once a year the ac filters should be replaced and every month wither cleared or inspected. For guides on how to change the aircon filter and when to do so, we encourage reading our blog for more information.

Inspect Ductwork

Ductwork inside of a ducted air conditioner should be inspected for any leaks, ice buildup or other damages. The aircon system will not be able to work correctly if the ductwork is broken and not sealed correctly. The efficiency of the system will be lowered and the ability to cool or what the room will be more difficult. An Air Conditioning Repair service is most likely needed when there have been issues with the ductwork.

Perform a General Test

On both ducted and split system air conditioners a general test should be carried out every month to a year. This is usually carried out by a licensed technician who will inspect any defects or potential errors. Gas leaks, unusual noises to parts malfunctioning, a general test and inspection is extremely beneficial.
