Air Conditioning Grilles - Everything You Need To Know!

The air conditioner grilles are used to divert air produced from the air conditioning system around the room. They are specifically designed in certain ways to deliver air differently to each room. The heated or cooled air will be delivered properly around the space and allow for better comfort levels with ac grilles. Logicool Air offers Air Conditioning Service work for air conditioning grilles where our professional technicians will operate safely and efficiently.

Air conditioner grilles will direct cool or warm air from the aircon ductwork around the room. There are multiple different grilles which can be installed which will disperse air differently. Aircon grilles should be cleaned every 2-5 years and are recommended to be repaired, replaced and installed by licensed technicians.

What is an Air Conditioner Grille?

The grille in an air conditioner is responsible for flowing out from the ductwork of the aircon into the building. They are designed to flow out this air in multiple directions rather than straight down or across from the vent. The designs allow for the dispense of air to be more controlled and effective inside the whole interior.

What are the Different Types of AC Grilles?

There are many different types of aircon grilles which can be installed for specific design and functional reasons.

Grille Type

Description

Bevel Face

These offer efficient direction airflow mostly in a four way airflow patter. These are used in ceiling aircon uses and often require little ceiling smudging. They come in different colours to help blend in with the interior.

Classic

The classic grille offers four way direction airflow and has a modern design. The plastic it is made of is strong and can be easily cleaned due to its removable centre core. It is also suitable for a range of air conditioners, including reverse cycle to gas heating.

Eggcrate

These are made of aluminium and has a square pattern to work mainly in exhaust and return air situations. They are great at blending in with modern architecture and design and come in a variety of sizes.

Floor Boot

When areas are extremely difficult and tight for aircon to be installed, this type of grille can be used. They are non-corrosive while having a shit off damper function. They are popular for high corrosive areas and people can easily adjust airflow through them.

Floor Grille

These are used for aircons which vents come out of the floor to maximise the airflow performance. They have a cross pattern to easily divert the air in the best angles and directions. Polycarbonate is used so they are tough and sturdy, which is good for areas with high traffic.

Linear Bar

These simple grilles are able to be mounted on the ceiling, wall or the floor. They can also be utilised in return, supply or exhaust air conditioning systems. Linear bar grilles are motley installed into shops, hotels, offices, receptions, sports halls, conference rooms and leisure cetnres.

Round Ceiling

For longevity and great airflow, these grilles are most commonly used due to their rounded shape. Air is directed out of the system evenly and across the ceiling for the whole room to receive cooling or heating. Their design also blends into modern design and their white coating helps with reducing light reflection.

Square Swirl

The spiral blades will cause either an axial, radial or tangential air flow inside the room. These will help with the comfort levels as they assist with airflow within the space as well.

How Do I Clean the Air Conditioning Grille?

It is important that the grilles are cleaned regularly or at least every 2-5 years to prevent many issues. Cleaning any dust or debris which has built up around the grille will help keep the system more efficient at flowing our air. The noise levels ill be decreased, odours will be removed and dust will stop being flowed around the room. Cleaning the grilles will also help in preventing bacteria and other harmful substances from circulating.

Vacuuming the grille or applying small amounts of soapy water will help clean the grille. The grille and the frame should both be cleaned with a mild detergent. If any harsh cleaning products are used then the chance of staining or ruining the grilles may occur. If there is mould present on or around the grilles then a fully qualified technician should be contacted to properly clean the system.

How do you Measure for the Right Grille?

If the current grille needs to be replaced then installing a correct sized grille is important. Follow these steps in order to correctly measure what sized grille is needed:

  1. Make sure to measure for the new grille without the current one still on. Remove the current grille or vent to begin with.
  2. Measure the open in the ceiling, wall or floor by measuring its length and then its width. Take measurements in both millimetres and inches in case the grille only lists sizes in one measurement.
  3. Purchase the correct sizes grille by using the measurements of the opening. The new grille should match the measurements taken and it is important to know that the outside cover will be larger than the inside. This is because of the screws involved which are why the outside of the grille is often larger than the inside.
